Eglin Air Force Base is home to the 96th Air Base Wing, which offers support in personnel, communications, medical and security for the Air Armament Center. Eglin Air Force Base is also the main hub for all Air Force Armaments and has been instrumental in the development, testing, and deployment of all air-delivered weapons. Two of the projects at Eglin include the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile and the HARM High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile.
Eglin Air Force Base has an on-site Child Development Center that provides child care services to children from 6 weeks up to 5 years of age. There are numerous elementary, middle and high schools offered as well as colleges offering graduate and undergraduate program. Private schools, gifted children and special needs programs are also offered. In the main base area, elementary children will attend either Oak Hill or Cherokee Elementary schools. The middle school is located just outside the West Gate. The on-post youth center provides children from 5 to 18 years with sports programs, instructional classes, and before-and-after school care. Basketball, baseball, soccer, and cheerleading are some of the many activities provided. More than 200 children frequent the development center on a daily bases.
